Skin Needling

The benefits of skin needling

Skin needling, also known as dermal needling, micro-needling and collagen induction therapy (CIT), is quickly becoming the go-to treatment for therapists and is requested increasingly by clients. Skin needling is usually performed with one of two devices; dermal rollers or a ‘pen’ like device, both using disposable needle cartridges. Regardless of the treatment name, or the needling device used, this treatment has been proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scarring (including surgical, trauma and acne scarring), promote skin tightening, improve stretch marks and reducing pore size, among others.

So, now you know what skin needling can do, but the big question is, how does it perform such miracles?!

Although there are slight variations to a skin needling treatment, depending on the type of device as well as the condition being treated, the effect in the skin remains the same. As the fine needles are moved over the skin with light pressure, micro punctures are left in the skin. These tiny punctures create a wound healing effect on the skin, causing your skin to produce many different types of growth factors, as well as a re-knitting of the collagen and elastin structures. The outcome is stronger, tighter,younger looking and overall healthier skin. Skin absorbs topical active products applied after the treatment of skin needling.

What type of needling is offered at Skin & Laser?

DermaFrac

DermaFrac is classed as a micro-needling facial, using a roller device with a serum infusion at the same time. The DermaFrac treatment begins with a microdermabrasion to remove any dead skin cells and increase absorption of products. After the microdermabrasion, the micro-needle device uses suction to adhere to the skin, the chosen serum is infused through the hand piece at the same time the micro-needles are moved over the skin. The facial is then finished with LED to reduce redness and topical products are applied to finish.

The point of difference with DermaFrac is the simultaneous serum infusion. Your therapist will choose between the following;

  • Rejuvenate: A cocktail of peptides that has the potential to stimulate collagen and fibroblast production. It also helps to relax the muscles in a subtle, natural way.
  • Hydrate: Hyaluronic acid triggers intense hydration.
  • Clarify: Lactic and Salicylic acids cleanse congested, oily pores for more vibrant, clearer skins.
  • Lighten: Kojic Acid helps to lighten and even out pigmentation.
  • Growth Factors: GF-R is a rich blend of growth factors, moisturisers, peptides and vitamins for younger-looking skin.

Due to the combination of micro-needles and suction, there is also no pain associated with a DermaFrac treatment, as well as no down time!

Fractionated needling

This type of needling treatment is also called collagen induction therapy (CIT) or dermal needling. At Skin & Laser we use the amazing M-Derma ‘pen’ to customise the depth penetration depending on the conditions we are treating. This treatment is generally more intense then the DermaFrac and gets the best results with deep lines, scarring and stretch marks.

Be

prepared to be a little red faced directly after this treatment and for a day or two after.
