This article is all about how the gut impacts the skin. As science and research develops, we are constantly learning new information about our skin. At Skin & Laser we make sure we are abreast of the latest learnings and technology so we can continue to deliver the best results for our clients.

Welcome to Skin & Laser where Our Passion is Your Skin!The gut – skin connection

In recent years, the beauty industry has seen a dramatic change in how we are treating skin conditions. It is becoming extremely obvious that gut health affects what is shown on the skin. A recent study showed that small intestine bacterial overgrowth (when there is an overgrowth of bad bacteria in the small intestine) is 10 times more prevalent in people with acne rosacea. By treating this internal gut inflammation, we can see a reduction of inflammatory skin conditions.

Our digestive system is a host to an abundance of bacteria which helps with the absorption of nutrients and an overgrowth of bad bacteria causes inflammation and decreases the intestines ability to absorb nutrients. It has been proven that both stress and gut inflammation can impair the function of the skin barrier. This leads to a decrease in anti-microbial defences in the skin, and an increase in the severity of inflammation and infection in the skin (ie. Cystic acne).Welcome to Skin & Laser where Our Passion is Your Skin! 2

Better gut health can improve many skin conditions, such as;

  • Dermatitis
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Rosacea
  • Acne

If you are suffering from any of these conditions, or digestive issues, a digestive tune up may be what your body needs.

If you think of your gut as a garden, and it becomes overgrown with weeds (bad bacteria) – it won’t matter what seeds, flowers or vegies are planted, they simply will not grow. We need to first remove the weeds, then plant the seeds, then feed our garden. The three step system of Regul8 helps to weed, seed and feed our gut to help improve gut health and overall wellbeing.  Regular maintenance then with Maintain, EFA’s, plenty of water and a good healthy diet  will keep your skin in tip top condition and ready for anything that our environment may throw at us!
